Since we experimented already with success to transfer the router settings from Asus RT-N65U to Asus RT-AC68U here are the steps.
Before connecting the new router, from the old one do:
1. Login into admin account.
2. Go to “Administration” page, tab “Restore/Save/Upload Setting”
3. Press “Save” from “Save settings” option and save the file. You may overw

4. If you use Asus DDNS got to “Wan” page, “DDNS” tab and disabled or change the name. In this way the when the new router will start we have free this domain name, otherwise you get the message “… The domain name NAME.asuscomm.com is registered .” and get into the issue solved ASUS DDNS hostname… already Registered
5. If you intend of using the old router ( RT-N65U ) in the same network with the new (RT-AC68U) one you will have to change “Operation Mode” from “Administration” panel from “Wireless router mode (Default)” to “Access Point(AP) mode” and CHANGE the WAN IP. We used 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.1.2 (for example).
6. Start the new router and take the WAN cable and at least one LAN cable (depending on your configuration) from old one and plug into the new one.
7. You may get the Firmware warning message and update to the last one.
8. Once restart, “Skip Setup Wizard” on new router (link on left top) and to Go to “Administration” page tab “Restore/Save/Upload Setting”
9. From “Restore setting” upload the file you just saved from previous router (Step 3)
You may need to reboot the router and you will notice that all settings are back.
