I'm having the same problems. Chapter 6-1, when King Sammer yells for his vassals, the door opens and the game freezes.. the music loops, the door sits open, but dolphin itself doesn't crash.
I've tried changing various settings to see if I could get past this, but no dice.

Edit: Downloaded latest build, reset config to default, still getting the freeze.
Paper Mario was re-released for Nintendo’s Wii Virtual Console in July 2007 similarly as Wii U Virtual Console in 2015. Paper Mario is set in the Mushroom Kingdom as the saint Mario endeavors to spare Princess Peach from Bowser, who has confined the seven “Star Spirits”, lifted her fortification into the sky and has viably squashed his. It’s not quite the Virtual Console, but it is a way to play old Nintendo games like this as well as the arcade version of Super Mario Bros. On new Nintendo hardware.
